Since the collapse of his late, lamented Hot Boyz team, Lil Wayne's support system has been Young Money Entertainment. With full backing from his Cash Money label and \"Daddy\" Birdman, the New Orleans scion formed the clique and production company in 2005. He shuffled prospects through the system for years; only fellow N'awlins rapper Mack Maine, who achieved modest success on the mixtape circuit, stuck around for the long haul. By 2009, and in the wake of his multi-platinum Tha Carter III, Wayne finally settled on a winning team. The roster is currently headed by Mack Maine, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Jae Millz and Tyga. Lesser-known members include Gudda Gudda, Lil Chuckee, Lil Twist, Shanell, Short Dawg and T-Streets. The crew's debut, 2010's We Are Young Money, relied heavily on Wayne for hits such as \"EveryGirl in the World,\" \"BedRock,\" \"Steady Mobbin\" and \"Roger That.\" However, Young Money has begun to yield breakout stars. Drake's Thank Me Later was one of the biggest rap albums of 2010. Nicki Minaj, a rapper from Queens, NY, has drawn attention for her quirky visual style and inventive rhymes."}],"albumGroups":{"others":["alb.2722761687869983584"],"singlesAndEPs":["alb.718227386","alb.711557098","alb.604613457","alb.580297214","alb.565229352","alb.462980238","alb.453853237","alb.433950515","alb.425392746","alb.422921142","alb.408987805","alb.405880195","alb.371356296","alb.243044787","alb.194892862","alb.194877968","alb.31055925","alb.28813938"],"main":["alb.194766932","alb.194751868","alb.194740228","alb.194729039","alb.139406019","alb.139311569","alb.41973686","alb.55486147","alb.31348725","alb.31348723","alb.23700051"]},"links":{"albums":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.9923516/albums"},"images":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.9923516/images"},"posts":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.9923516/posts"},"topTracks":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.9923516/tracks/top"},"genres":{"ids":["g.10","g.69","g.71","g.72","g.115","g.130","g.146","g.161","g.173","g.185","g.194","g.201","g.218","g.226","g.249","g.250","g.253","g.266","g.290","g.292","g.316","g.366","g.383","g.410","g.453","g.454","g.463","g.470","g.1036","g.1037","g.1038"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/genres/g.10,g.69,g.71,g.72,g.115,g.130,g.146,g.161,g.173,g.185,g.194,g.201,g.218,g.226,g.249,g.250,g.253,g.266,g.290,g.292,g.316,g.366,g.383,g.410,g.453,g.454,g.463,g.470,g.1036,g.1037,g.1038"},"stations":{"ids":["sas.9923516"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/stations/sas.9923516"},"relatedProjects":{"ids":["art.9005","art.6597500","art.17655401","art.19596595","art.26804635","art.28463069","art.32558379","art.40581474"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.9005,art.6597500,art.17655401,art.19596595,art.26804635,art.28463069,art.32558379,art.40581474"},"influences":{"ids":["art.44042","art.65298","art.7400956"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.44042,art.65298,art.7400956"},"contemporaries":{"ids":["art.77217183"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.77217183"}}},{"type":"artist","id":"art.283","href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.283","name":"Aaliyah","shortcut":"aaliyah","blurbs":[],"bios":[{"title":"Napster","author":"Napster","publishDate":"","bio":"A huge, multi-platinum selling, R&B star of the 1990s, Aaliyah topped the charts, starred in movies and was dubbed the Queen of Urban Pop, all before her tragic death aged just 22. The niece of legendary soul star Gladys Knight, Aaliyah was managed and signed to her uncle Barry Hankerson's label from 12-years-old and first came to prominence a couple of years later when her debut album Age Ain't Nothing But A Number (1994) sold over 3 million copies and produced the US Top 10 hits Back & Forth and At Your Best (You Are Love). Rumoured to have married her influential producer R. Kelly while still only 15, her sound developed from teen pop into a more edgy, strutting hip hop swagger with the introduction of young beat makers Timbaland and Missy Elliott on second album One In A Million (1996). She received rave reviews for her starring role in the film Romeo Must Die and scored her first US Number 1 with the soundtrack's single Try Again before topping the charts with third album Aaliyah (2001). Just days after its release, Aaliyah was killed in a plane crash while returning from filming a video for single Rock The Boat in the Bahamas. A child protégé who began recording tracks for Cash Money Records when he was eleven, he joined rap group Hot Boys in 1997 before releasing his debut solo album 'Tha Block Is Hot' (1999). His reputation grew fast through a constant flow of mixtapes. In 2002 he decided he'd no longer write down lyrics and, in one cathartic session, he recorded all his unused written material on the 35-minute track '10,000 Bars'. His new freestyle technique helped convert underground credibility into mainstream acceptance with the albums '50 Degreez' (2002), 'Tha Carter' (2004) and 'Tha Carter II' (2006). But it was chart-topping album 'Tha Carter III' (2008) that finally made his prophecy come true, producing the US number one single 'Lollipop'. He went on to enter the genre of rock on 'Rebirth' (2010) and the move paid off; the album hit number two on the Billboard 200 and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts.
Recorded prior to and released during an eight-month stint in prison, 'I Am Not a Human Being' arrived in 2010. It was certified platinum and hit number one on the Billboard 200. Subsequent release 'Tha Carter IV' (2011) was certified double-platinum and also peaked at number one on the Billboard 200. It was his third album to top the chart in its first week of release. It was followed by 'I Am Not a Human Being II' (2013), 'Free Weezy Album' (2015) and 'Tha Carter V' (2018) which were also commercially successful.
He has also enjoyed an acting career in films 'Baller Blockin'' (2000), 'Who's Your Caddy?' (2007), 'Hurricane Season' (2009) and 'Freaknik: The Movie' (2010). He has also written a book titled 'Gone Til' November: A Journal of Rikers Island' which details his experience of being incarcerated in 2010 at Rikers Island prison.
Despite rumours of his retirement from music after ongoing disputes with Cash Money Records and the stalled release of 'The Carter V' in 2018, Lil Wayne returned with his 13th studio album 'Funeral' in 2020. Comprising Big Pooh and Phonte on the mic with 9th Wonder on production, they released their much-anticipated debut LP The Listening on Beni B's ABB label in 2003. Revered for their mellow, bling-free rhyme style and soulful, golden-era-influenced beats, they quickly ascended to the top of the crowded underground scene, especially amongst jaded older fans who considered them the second coming of ATCQ and Pete Rock. In particular, 9th Wonder got a lot of attention from indie and mainstream artists alike; Jay-Z had him contribute a cut on The Black Album, and hooked him up with Destiny's Child for their single \"Girl.\" He also produced entire albums for MURS (Living Legends) and Black Moon frontman Buckshot. Meanwhile, Phonte teamed up with Nicolay (a Dutch producer heavily influenced by 9th) for the much-sweated transcontinental collabo record The Foreign Exchange: Connected (2004), and Big Pooh dropped the excellent solo piece Sleepers (2005). Thanks to quality music and tons of good press, the group was picked up by Atlantic Records and released their sophomore LP The Minstrel Show in the fall of 2005. The album was deemed a classic by SCRATCH magazine and XXL, while the editor of The Source resigned from his post after co-CEO and aging never-ran Benzino lowered Little Brother's mic rating. In addition to the LB and their outside projects, they are also part of the Justus League, a 12-man hip-hop collective that includes the Away Team, Cesar Comanche, Legacy and Chaundon."}],"albumGroups":{"singlesAndEPs":["alb.749759473","alb.749121784","alb.748659397","alb.690880510","alb.641823893","alb.337960778","alb.335339545","alb.7548546","alb.637302954","alb.7596493","alb.637236118","alb.637302929","alb.637236521"],"compilations":["alb.11464137","alb.30693846","alb.20820129","alb.11429518","alb.11089696"],"main":["alb.450658359","alb.397747757","alb.7600701","alb.557811891","alb.557811923","alb.23614970","alb.21776616","alb.21222463","alb.557811862","alb.558038931","alb.125363153","alb.7600716","alb.583589731","alb.6989530","alb.6989522","alb.6989525","alb.637236247","alb.637236035","alb.631074232"]},"links":{"albums":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.65056/albums"},"images":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.65056/images"},"posts":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.65056/posts"},"topTracks":{"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.65056/tracks/top"},"genres":{"ids":["g.38","g.71","g.115","g.146","g.161","g.222","g.1034"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/genres/g.38,g.71,g.115,g.146,g.161,g.222,g.1034"},"stations":{"ids":["sas.65056"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/stations/sas.65056"},"influences":{"ids":["art.542","art.40188","art.69186"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.542,art.40188,art.69186"},"contemporaries":{"ids":["art.14352","art.39773","art.67380","art.5015309","art.5097263","art.6928560","art.7485008","art.8732166","art.9599061","art.9637637","art.16138702","art.192654933"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.14352,art.39773,art.67380,art.5015309,art.5097263,art.6928560,art.7485008,art.8732166,art.9599061,art.9637637,art.16138702,art.192654933"},"relatedProjects":{"ids":["art.7161686","art.7292783","art.8653315"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.7161686,art.7292783,art.8653315"},"followers":{"ids":["art.28463069"],"href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.28463069"}}},{"type":"artist","id":"art.5015309","href":"https://api.napster.com/v2.2/artists/art.5015309","name":"Kanye West","shortcut":"kanye-west","blurbs":[],"bios":[{"title":"Napster","author":"Napster","publishDate":"","bio":"
Making his name as producer for Lil' Kim, Janet Jackson and, most notably, Jay-Z's Blueprint album, Kanye West, born June 8, 1977 in Atlanta, Georgia, experienced a middle-class upbringing that made him different from most rappers. His debut album The College Dropout (2004) mixed rap beats with socially-conscious soul while singles “Jesus Walks” and “All Falls Down” showcased a strutting flamboyance.
Chart-topping second album Late Registration (2007) won mass acclaim with worldwide hits “Gold Digger” and “Touch the Sky” before the more introspective Graduation (2007). 808s & Heartbreak (2008) featured contributions from Mr. Hudson, Lil Wayne and Kid Cudi. However, the following year, he caused outrage in the media after he stormed the stage during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.
After cancelling his tour with Lady Gaga and taking a break to regroup after the controversy, he released his fifth album, 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Noted as a comeback record, in won a Grammy for Best Rap Album and was named Best Album of 2010 by Billboard, Time, and Rolling Stone magazines. He followed this with Yeezus in 2013 which gave him his fifth consecutive number 1 on the Billboard 200. 2016’s The Life of Pablo debuted at number 1. He announced a tour to accompany the album but after his wife Kim Kardashian was robbed in Paris mid-tour, he cancelled the remainder of the dates. He was also later admitted for psychiatric observation after suffering from sleep deprivation and dehydration. He took a break away from the public eye for almost a year, returning in 2017 with news of new music. He released Ye in 2018 to mixed reviews though the album gave him another number 1 on the Billboard 200. 2019’s Jesus Is King coincided with a short concert film of the same name. Later that year, Jesus Is Born arrived on Christmas Day with his gospel group Sunday Service Choir. For 2021’s ambitious Donda, Kanye West attempted to synthesize all of his previous influences over an album that ran nearly two hours.
Born Scott Mescudi in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 30, 1984, the future Kid Cudi started rapping at the end of high school. Initially studying film, he dropped out of university to move to New York to further his music career where he released his first mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in 2008, catching the attention of Kanye West who featured the young singer on 808s & Heartbreak. Cudi released the single “Day 'N' Nite” in 2008 and, thanks to a popular remix of the song that gave it appeal in clubs, the track started to gain real interest, eventually hitting number 3 on the pop charts. In 2009, Cudi released his debut album, the autobiographical, sci-fi tinged concept album Man on the Moon: The End of Day, which hit Number 4 in the US charts. He would become one of the dominant figures in hip-hop in the next decade, releasing five albums including 2010’s Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager, 2013’s Indicud, and 2014’s Satellite Flight: Journey to the Mother Moon, which would all go top 5. He began side projects such as the rock band WZRD with Dot da Genius, and he scored a handful of acting roles during this time. He started the next decade with the biggest single of his career, “The Scotts”, a collaboration with Travis Scott that topped the American and Canadian charts and traveled to the top 10 in multiple countries around the globe. That same year he and Eminem enjoyed a number 22 hit with “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady”. In December of 2020 he issued “Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, his fifth album to land in the top 5, and his third to top both the R&B and rap charts.
Full of swaggering braggadocio and gangsta aggression, rap star Tyga exudes the hip hop traditions of his native Compton, South Los Angeles but managed to cross over to college audiences and invade the pop charts. Born Michael Stevenson on November 19, 1989, in Compton, California, his stage name Tyga came from his resemblance to golfer Tiger Woods and the acronym Thank You God Always. He started putting out independent mixtapes in 2007, which gained him a lot of attention. Championed by his cousin Travie McCoy of Gym Class Heroes, he signed with the Decaydance label run by Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and toured his debut album No Introduction (2009) to crowds of rock and emo fans. His big break came when he appeared at the MTV Music Awards and struck up a friendship with Lil Wayne, who signed him to his Young Money label and guested on Tyga’s 2012 single “Faded”. He featured on Chris Brown's Top 20 hit “Deuces” and reached Number 7 in the US with his signature anthem “Rack City”. Tyga’s album Careless World: Rise of the Last King (2012) made the Top 5 and featured guest appearances from Drake, Nicki Minaj, Busta Rhymes and Pharrell Williams. Follow-up Hotel California (2013) also made the US Top 10, although his next three albums – The Gold Album: 18th Dynasty (2015), BitchImTheShit2 (2017), and Kyoto (2019 - did not fare as well on the charts. He collaborated with Chris Brown on the album Fan of a Fan: The Album (2015). Things turned around commercially for Tyga when he released his seventh album, Legendary, in 2019. The album reached Number 17 on the Billboard 200 and went Top 10 in the R&B and Rap charts. The album also entered the Top 20 in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, and Switzerland. Throughout his career, he continued to release a series of mixtapes and made guest appearances on tracks by Birdman, YG, Travis Porter, Waka Flocka Flame, The Game, Major Lazer, Ty Dolla $ign, ASAP Ferg, and many others. In 2021, Tyga and Ty Dollar $ign appeared on the track “Chosen”, which was taken from the deluxe edition of rapper Blxst’s EP No Love Lost.

Nicki Minaj is one of the most successful rappers in history, mixing hip-hop beats, pop hooks, and a unique vocal delivery into hits like \"Super Bass,\" \"Starships,\" and \"Bang Bang.\" She was born on December 8, 1982, in St. James, Port of Spain, and left Trinidad at five years old in order to live with her mother in New York City. She started making mixtapes in her teens and won \"Female Artist of the Year\" at the 2008 Underground Music Awards. Her single \"Massive Attack\" created further interest as she became the subject of a major label bidding war before crossing into the mainstream with \"Your Love,\" which sampled Annie Lennox's \"No More I Love You's\" and reached Number 14 on the US charts. Two years later, Minaj became the first female artist to top the Billboard Rap Chart in eight years, holding the top spot for eight weeks. This feat was followed by the debut album Pink Friday, which featured a popular collaboration with Eminem, \"Roman's Revenge.\" Boosted by the popularity of her third album, The Pinkprint, and its lead single \"Pills n Potions,\" she became the only artist to win the BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist for five consecutive years, as well as the first female artist to chart four songs simultaneously in the Top 10 of Billboard's Mainstream R&B Hip-Hop Chart. In 2017, she released the singles \"No Frauds,\" Changed It,\" \"Regret in Your Tears\" at the same time and broke the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 entries for a female artist, a record previously held by Aretha Franklin. Her fourth album, Queen, was released in 2018 and debuted at Number 2 in America. Two years later, she appeared on a remix of Doja Cat's Grammy-nominated \"Say So,\" which climbed to Number 1 on the Hot 100 and gave Nicki Minaj her first chart-topping pop hit. She returned to the same position later that year with \"Trollz,\" then reissued one of her earliest mixtapes, Beam Me Up Scotty, in 2021. Led by \"Seeing Green,\" a single featuring Drake and Lil Wayne, the mixtape debuted at Number 2 in America. Later that year, the single \"Super Bass\" from her studio debut Pink Friday was certified diamond by the RIAA, making her the second female rapper to ever achieve that feat. In August 2022, Minaj earned her third Number 1 hit on the Hot 100 with \"Super Freaky Girl,\" one of several new tracks to appear on her greatest hits album, Queen Radio: Volume 1.

the legendary gangsta rap stars who originated from his tough neighborhood – including Ice Cube, Tupac Shakur and Eazy-E - and crafted a style that talked about the harsh realities of his upbringing with an honest lack of machismo. Originally calling himself K-Dot, he was made to freestyle for two hours at his audition for Top Dawg Entertainment because label bosses couldn't believe that a 16-year-old could come up with such talented rhymes. Eventually, they believed and signed him up, and his reputation grew with mixtapes including Training Day (2005), C4 (2009) and Overly Dedicated (2010), before a video of him taking on Charles Hamilton in an impromptu freestyle rap battle set the hip hop community on alert. He featured on tracks by Game and formed the collective Black Hippy with Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, and Schoolboy Q, before debut album Section.80 (2011) took on themes of racism, politics and gang crime. Produced by Dr Dre, follow-up Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City (2012) proved his big commercial breakthrough, reaching Number 2 in the US charts and producing the Top 20 single “Swimming Pools (Drank)”. Marked as one of rap's biggest young talents, he released the To Pimp a Butterfly (2015), which was an international success, reaching Number 1 the US, Australia, Canada, Ireland, and New Zealand. The album included the singles “The Blacker the Berry” and “These Walls”. The 2017 album Damn was another international success and included the massive hit single “Humble”. Kendrick Lamar then curated the soundtrack to the 2018 motion picture Black Panther. He composed songs for the soundtrack as well as inviting friends – Schoolboy Q, 2 Chainz, Khaled, Jay Rock, and others – to contribute songs to the album Black Panther: The Music. The album included the hit singles “All the Stars” (featuring SZA), “Pray For Me” (featuring The Weeeknd), and “King’s Dead” (featuring Jay Rock, Future, and James Blake). After collaborating with several artists including Nipsey Hussle, Anderson.Paak, and SiR, Kendrick Lamar returned in 2022 with the Number 1 album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. The album – which includes the Top 10 hits “N95” and “Silent Hill” - features guest appearances from Blxst, Amanda Reifer, Sampha, Taylor Paige, Kodak Black, Baby Keem, Sam Dew, and Beth Gibbons.
A remarkably creative force who started out as a comedy writer, Donald Glover starred in the cult sitcom Community, created Golden Globe-winning drama series Atlanta, and took on the iconic Star Wars role of Lando Calrissian, yet has still found the time to conquer the hip-hop world under his musical alias Childish Gambino. Born on September 25th, 1983 in Edwards, California and raised as a Jehovah's Witness in the suburbs of Atlanta, Glover graduated from the Tisch School of Arts before self-releasing mixtapes of music and comedic raps in 2008. Given his pseudonym by a Wu-Tang Clan name generator, he developed his rap skills on early independent albums Poindexter and I Am Just a Rapper, guesting on songs by Jamie xx and Chance the Rapper before really making his mark with 2011's Camp. Reaching number eleven in the US, the project documented Glover's life story and personal anxieties, laced with snarky skits and quirks. Seen as part of the new breed of indie hip-hop artists, he crafted sound with Swedish composer Ludwig Goransson and featured ScHoolboy Q, Ghostface Killah and Beck on his mixtape Royalty before returning with the GRAMMY-nominated Because the Internet in 2013. Glover’s evolution as an artist broke new ground with Awaken, My Love! in 2016, on which he brought together his psychedelic rock, funk and R&B influences and showcased a soulful singing voice which drew comparisons with Prince, D'Angelo and Sly Stone. The album reached number five in the US and produced the gospel-pop hit single “Redbone”. After a brief hiatus, Glover landed another major hit in 2018’s “This is America”, which reflected on the enduring social issues plaguing the US today while invoking wry, meme-friendly dance moves. The song secured two GRAMMYs and topped charts internationally, and was swiftly followed by the two-track Summer Pack EP, which spawned the platinum-certified single “Feels Like Summer”. Keeping a low profile while quietly sharing the new songs “Algorhythm” and “All Night” with attendees of his 2019 tour, Glover eventually reemerged in 2020 with his fourth studio album, 3.15.20, a cryptic, ambiguously titled effort featuring appearances from Ariana Grande, 21 Savage and Jai Paul.

Both his parents were addicts and his brothers were drug dealers, not a promising start for a teenager. After being expelled from High School, he began to look for a purpose in his life and discovered it in hip-hop. Bizarrely, he cites Frank Sinatra as one of his major influences and titled his fourth mixtape Young Sinatra; Welcome to Forever, and although Ol' Blue Eyes might appear to be a strange bedfellow for a hip-hopping rap artist, the influences and connection can definitely be detected in Logic's work. Young Sinatra; Welcome to Forever clocked up 700,000 downloads on DatPiff and although the downloads were free, the sheer volume of users brought Logic to the attention of fabled hip-hop label Def Jam. Under Pressure, his debut studio album for the label, sold 70,000 copies in its first week, entering Billboard's Hip-Hop/R&B chart at Number 2. Follow-up album The Incredible True Story sold 135,000 copies in its first week, underlining Logic's growing popularity as a hip-hop artist. Since leaving the projects, he has become a clean-living abstainer forgoing cigarettes and drugs for the occasional glass of champagne. In subsequent years, this clarity of mind allowed him to continue honing his craft and reach the top of the rap charts in the US with releases like Everybody (2017), Bobby Tarantino II (2018), Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (2019), and No Pressure (2020). Featuring cameos by DJ Premier, RZA, Royce da 5'9, The Game, AZ, Russ, Action Bronson, and Wiz Khalifa, his eighth studio album Vinyl Days appeared in 2022 and debuted at Number 12 on the Billboard 200. It was also his last release for Def Jam Recordings. After being married for ten years, things took a dramatic turn when they released joint single 'Apeshit' under the name of The Carters. Written and produced by Pharrell Williams, the song was accompanied by an elaborate video directed by Ricky Saiz and filmed at The Louvre in Paris, with the pair posing in front of some of the world's most valuable paintings, including Leonardo da Vinci's 'Mona Lisa'. With little fanfare, it was swiftly followed by their first album together 'Everything Is Love' to an ecstatic reception from both critics and fans despite confusion whether its catchy rhythms, repetitive beats and witty lyrics should see it regarded as a pop or a hip-hop album. She was subsequently signed to Sony Music as a solo artist when she was only 15-years-old. Aiko recorded what was intended to be her debut album for Sony titled My Name Is Jhené but as the release date loomed, Aiko had second thoughts about her musical career and asked to be released from her contract so that she could continue with her education. The label acquiesced to her wishes and the album was never released. In 2011, Aiko decided to restart her stalled career and released a mixtape which led to her signing a deal with ARTium records. After a succession of singles, she released her debut album Souled Out (2014). The album debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard 200. Following the success of the first album, Aiko released a collaboration with American rapper and then-boyfriend Big Sean, with whom she performed under the name Twenty88 prior to releasing her second solo album Trip in 2017, which peaked at Number 5 on the Billboard 200. He started out as a record producer whilst still at university in New Orleans and began performing and building up credibility as a performer in the East Bay hip-hop scene, associating with fellow artists such as Lil B and The Cataracts. Gillum's early mixtapes had very limited success until he recorded The Endless Summer in 2011. It was released as a giveaway in order to promote Gillum's work and it contained a reworking of Dion's hit single “Runaround Sue” with an accompanying video directed by Tyler Yee. The song garnered over four million YouTube views and kick-started Gillum's rap career. In 2014 he released his major-label debut album, a collection of 16 tracks titled These Things Happen. The album topped the Billboard Hip-Hop Charts, went to number three on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum in the process. Bagging an international hit the following year in the form of the Bebe Rexha collaboration “Me, Myself & I”, he swiftly returned with a second LP, When It’s Dark Out, which reached number five in the US. His third effort, The Beautiful & Damned, arrived in 2017 to mixed reviews, with its lead single, the ASAP Rocky and Cardi B collaboration “No Limit”, becoming his highest-charting song to date. Matching his existing record, the album peaked at number three in his home country. In 2018, G-Eazy found his off-stage life marred by controversy following an incident when he was found guilty of assaulting a security guard in Sweden as well as being in possession of narcotics. Nonetheless, he’s since maintained a prolific output, sharing two EPs entitled B-Sides and Scary Nights in 2019 and returning in 2020 with Everything’s Strange Here, a new album taking cues from indie rock. In 2021, he began teasing a sequel to These Things Happen, ushering it in with the Chris Brown and Mark Morrison collaboration “Provide”.

A powerful tearjerker, it was included as a tribute to the actor Paul Walker who was killed in a car crash during the making of the movie. The son of a music teacher and writer of commercials, Puth was born Charles Otto Puth Jr. on December 2, 1991, to a Catholic father and Jewish mother and raised in New Jersey. His mother taught him to play piano at the age of 4 and initially studied classical music, but later turned to jazz, joining a jazz ensemble at the Count Basie Theatre Cool School when he was 12. He studied jazz and classical music and majored in music production and engineering at the Berklee College of Music. In 2009, he started his own video-streaming channel and achieved some interest with \"These Are My Sexy Shades,\" going on to release the EP The Otto Tunes in 2010. Ellen DeGeneres saw him performing a cover of Adele's \"Someone Like You\" with fellow Berklee student Emily Luther, featured them on her TV show, and signed them to her eleveneleven label. Developing his songwriting he was subsequently signed to the Atlantic label and released the catchy single \"Marvin Gaye\" with guest vocals from Meghan Trainor, topping the charts in the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. Linking up with rapper Wiz Khalifa, his career scaled new heights following the release of \"See You Again\" and featured with Meghan Trainor again on the video for her hit \"Dear Future Husband.\" He also worked with Lil Wayne before releasing his debut album Nine Track Mind in 2015, which produced another hit, \"One Call Away.\" In 2017, he had two further hits with \"Attention\" and \"How Long,\" both forerunners of the release of his new studio effort Voicenotes in 2018. Among its many feats, Voicenotes peaked at Number 4 on both the Billboard 200 and the UK Albums Chart, and was certified gold in the US, Canada, and New Zealand. After scraping most of the material he had written between 2019 and 2021, Charlie Puth took a different approach to songwriting and began sharing his creative process with his fans on social media. Preceded by the single \"Light Switch,\" his third studio full-length Charlie was released in 2022 to great critical acclaim, reaching Number 10 on the Billboard 200 chart.

Abel Tesfaye (February 16, 1990) was hailed as the future of urban pop while maintaining a persona shrouded in mystery. Raised by his Ethiopian grandmother in Toronto, Ontario, he dropped out of school at the age of 17 and started collaborating with producer Jeremy Rose, posting their early demos on his video-streaming channel under the name The Weeknd. Rose left the project, but the tracks quickly created interest among bloggers and critics and even won the approval of rap superstar Drake, who recruited him to appear on his single “Crew Love.” Mixtapes House of Balloons, Thursday, and Echoes of Silence further intensified interest before Trilogy (2012) compiled his recordings into a hit that reached Number 4 in the US and was praised for its ambient, melancholic feel. A world away from the swagger of most of his peers, The Weeknd earned comparisons to Marvin Gaye, Prince, Curtis Mayfield, and Frank Ocean for his chilling falsetto vocals and sonic ambition, but his shy personality and reluctance to do media interviews or promote his music created a mystique around him. Continuing to deal in slow, trippy tempos and atmospheric, heartbreaking soul, his debut studio album Kiss Land (2013) debuted at Number 2 in the US charts and confirmed The Weeknd's reputation as one of pop's most important new voices. He released his second album, Beauty Behind the Madness, in 2015 and with it began gathering up the awards including a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. Single “The Hills” from the album also proved a success with the Number 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 and a platinum certification by the RIAA. He followed this success with Starboy (2016), his third album, which reached Number 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned him another Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album. He collaborated with artists including Future, Kendrick Lamar, Daft Punk, and Lana Del Rey, and recorded music for the Black Panther film soundtrack. His first EP Dear Melancholy was released in 2018. In 2019, he starred in the film Uncut Gems and released collaborative singles “Lost in the Fire” with Gesaffelstein and “Power Is Power” with SZA and Travis Scott. Later that year, “Blinding Lights,” the lead single from his fourth album After Hours (2020), topped charts worldwide and climbed to Number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 before “Heartless” made it to the top of the US charts. Dawn FM, his nostalgia-ridden fifth full-length, was released in 2022 to great critical acclaim and landed at Number 2 on the Billboard 200. It featured cameos by Tyler the Creator and Lil Wayne and executive production by Oneohtrix Point Never. In 2023, The Weeknd starred in the HBO drama series The Idol, which he co-created with American actor and director Sam Levinson. Additionally, the R&B singer also wrote original music for the show, which was released under the title The Idol, Vol. 1 (Music from the HBO Original Series) in late June and included cameos by Future, Madonna, and Playboi Carti.

on July 3rd, 1993 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canadian singer and rapper Jahron “PartyNextDoor” Brathwaite first rose to prominence after his early material was picked up by a plethora of specialist R&B blogs. Soon thereafter, he earned a coveted spot as the first signing to Drake’s OVO Sound label in 2013, and his first self-titled mixtape subsequently went to number 17 on Billboard's Top R&B Albums Chart in 2013, with his debut album, PartyNextDoor Two (2014) topping the R&B and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and spawning the double platinum Drake collaboration “Recognize”. After teaming up with the Torontonian superstar twice more on his internationally chart-topping 2016 album Views and penning Rihanna’s smash hit “Work”, Brathwaite released a third eponymous effort, PartyNextDoor 3 (P3), which reached number eleven on the UK Albums Chart, marking a new career high. Amidst working on a succession of moderately successful EPs including two in 2017, Colours 2 and Seven Days, he featured on a number of high-profile hits including Major Lazer’s “Run Up”, Calvin Harris’s “Nuh Ready Nuh Ready” and Kanye West’s “Ghost Town”, while also collaborating with the likes of Jeremih, Lil Wayne and Zayn and co-writing DJ Khaled’s global success “Wild Thoughts”. Letting anticipation build for his next LP, he found himself the subject of frequent internet memes, with fans growing increasingly impatient with the lengthy wait for new solo material. Their prayers were answered in December 2019, when he returned with a pair of singles and announced his third studio album, Partymobile. It arrived in March 2020, entering the US charts at #8 and spawning the hit Rihanna collaboration “Believe It”. Brathwaite concluded the year with the surprise drop Partypack, a new EP of previously unreleased material including the sought-after 2014 fan favourite “Persian Rugs”.

Composed of producers Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, the Toronto-based duo met in 2011 at Al Maskati’s birthday party at a bar and hit it off right away. A week later, they had already recorded and released their unofficial first single “Hold Tight,” published anonymously on the Internet. The release of an EP titled Afterhours under the moniker Good People caught the attention of Drake’s producer Noah “40” Shebib, who swiftly signed them to his OVO Sound label. In 2013, they scored co-production credits on Drake’s “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” included in his platinum-selling album Nothing Was the Same, and released their debut EP A Place Like This the following year. This was followed by their eponymous full-length in 2016, which peaked at Number 20 in Canada and 69 on the Billboard 200. Preceded by the singles “Phases,” “One I Want” with PartyNextDoor, and “My Imagination” with dvsn, their sophomore effort The Space Between saw the light in 2017 and reached Number 30 in the Canadian Albums Chart. In the following years, Majid Jordan issued a string of standalone singles including 2019’s “Caught Up” featuring Khalid and “Superstar,” and 2021’s “Waves of Blue,” a slick electro R&B track that got to Number 11 on the Hot R&B Songs chart.
Daystar Peterson – born in Brampton, Ontario, Canada on July 27, 1992 – is a rapper, singer, songwriter better-known by his stage name, Tory Lanez. He had a chaotic childhood including the death of his mother and moving to several American cities as his father was a traveling minister. Back in Toronto in his late teens, he began performing and releasing a series of mixtapes including T.L. 2 T.O. (2009), Just Landed (2010), One Verse One Hearse (2010), Chixtape (2011), Ignant Shit (2012), and others. He gained significant attention with the release of his 2014 mixtape Lost Cause. In 2015, Tory Lanez guested on Meek Mill's track “Litty,” which went to Number 13 on Billboard's Rap Streaming Songs Chart, Number 14 on the Hot Rap Songs Chart, and Number 18 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Chart. After the release of his debut EP, Cruel Intentions (2015), he scored a hit with his track “Say It,” which reached Number 5 on the Hot R&B Songs Chart and Number 23 on the Hot 100. The song was featured on his 2016 debut album I Told You, which went to Number 1 on Billboard's Top Rap Albums and Number 4 on the Billboard 200. He released two albums in 2018: Memories Don't Die, which went to Number 1 on the R&B chart, and Love Me Now?, which topped the Rap Chart. That year, the single “Miss You” (featuring Cashmere Cat and Major Lazer) went to Number 2 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart. Tory Lanez issued his fourth studio effort Chixtape 5 in 2019, which reached Number 2 in Canada and landed at Number 1 on both the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Rap Albums charts. Controversy ensued when Tory Lanez was accused of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion, an episode he addressed extensively on his follow-up album, Daystar (2020). In 2021, he made a tepid return with the album Alone at Prom, which peaked at Number 25 on the American R&B charts and Number 19 in Canada.
